Interactive FictionThe Great Xavio is an interactive fiction mystery story. The main characters Dr. Todd and Hagerston also appear in this short story, but the Great Xavio has its own plot particularly designed for interactive fiction. You play as Hagerston; Dr. Todd seemed like a good non-player character for interactive fiction because, as I conceived him, he already had a tendency to follow up in conversation with a non-sequitur, or to give Hagerston unhelpful (or is it?) advice. What could be better for an interactive fiction NPC? The game is written using the Inform system by Graham Nelson, and was entered in the 2004 Interactive Fiction contest, where it placed eleventh. Dr. Todd has also been nominated for the Xyzzy award for best NPC. I revised the game substantially based on reviews after the end of the competition period. Download the latest revision here. |
